Marketing Lessons from a Chicken Rice Stall
While enjoying a drink at the practically deserted food center in CT Hub 2 on a Saturday afternoon, I witnessed a valuable marketing lesson in action. Of the three open stalls – a drink stall, a Thai food stall, and a chicken rice stall – something interesting unfolded.
The Thai food stall remained customer-free, perhaps suggesting a lack of widespread appeal for Thai cuisine among Singaporeans. However, the chicken rice stall experienced a fascinating phenomenon. Every 15 minutes, a group of about 30 Chinese tourists would swarm the stall, likely disembarking from a nearby tour bus. Over 45 minutes, the stall served approximately 90 customers!
This stall exemplified a brilliant strategy for attracting tourists. Chicken rice is a quintessential Singaporean dish for visitors. The stall offered ample seating for large groups and the location likely had easy parking for tour buses.
The key to their success? The stall had clearly partnered with tour guides to become a designated stop on their itineraries.
Consider how your own business could benefit from similar partnerships. Could you collaborate with agencies or businesses that have access to your ideal customer base? A strategic partner could provide a steady stream of new leads.
